Hardy Toll Road about to get wider, longer

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The Hardy Toll Road is about to get wider and longer.

As construction week continues, we are giving you a look at the plans, and when construction near I-45 is expected to finish.

Houston is already home to the world's largest freeway, but it's about to get even bigger.

Weekend after weekend, you've seen the Hardy Toll Road shut down from between FM 1960 and I-45.

The project started back in the summer of 2015, and it should finished early next year.

It's all to build a third lane in each direction from FM 1960 to the Grand Parkway.

But the Harris County Toll Road Authority has even bigger plans.

The Hardy Toll Road connector project will extend the Hardy from its current endpoint at 610 all the way to Downtown Houston.

The $400 million project will allow for two lanes to be built in each way.

The first phase of the Hardy connector project has already started, and construction will take several months.
