Three accidents on the southwest freeway with one involving two patrol cars

The Southwest Freeway is shutdown after multiple carshes.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- The northbound lanes of the Southwest Freeway at Chimney Rock were closed due to a series of accidents, two of the accidents involve patrol cars.

All lanes reopened after 7:30am.

Houston Police say they were responding to a hit-and-run accident on the Southwest Freeway near the 610 interchange.

ABC13 is getting reports that the driver was seriously hurt.

As officers were responding to that crash Sunday morning, another driver ran into a patrol car at the 610 and Southwest Freeway interchange.

The officer was taken to the hospital by ambulance. No word on his or her injuries.

A witness told us that crash happened around 3am as officers were instructing drivers to avoid the area due to the previous crash.

Meanwhile, another patrol vehicle was hit near the 59 on ramp at Chimney Rock.

The HPD vehicle sustained rear-end damage to the bumper.
