A Milwaukee police officer's wife will reportedly need many surgeries to repair the damage caused by a bacterial infection on her face.

Friends said life took an unexpected turn for the worse last Saturday. Carmen was scheduled for a routine procedure to remove a cyst. They say 24 hours later, she developed a bacterial disease - a flesh-eating bacteria - that also infected Jeremy, a Milwaukee police officer, according to a Gofundme page.

Due to HIPAA Laws, the hospital could not comment.

However, Milwaukee news station TODAY'S TMJ4 confirmed that Jeremy Greene is at St. Luke's Hospital, while Carmen Greene is in the ICU.

The couple's friend Kristin Limberg is trying to keep life as normal as she can for the Greene's baby and young son.

"They're a wonderful family," said Limberg. "They both served time with the Navy. Mom and dad are right now in the reserves. They pretty much spent their whole career in the Navy once they graduated high school."

A man's family says he was infected with a flesh-eating bacteria in Matagorda Bay

At a craft fair on the MATC campus in Oak Creek, men in uniform stopped by and pulled out their wallets.

"It's not just mom or dad. It's mom and dad that are in the hospital," said Elisabeth Wallich.

Carmen and Jeremy have a long road to recovery. Carmen will reportedly need numerous surgeries, and Jeremy won't be able to return to the police force for a while.

"This is a tragedy but I really feel that with all the support we are getting this family is really going to pull through," said Limburg.

While a few thousand dollars have already been collected, friends are hoping more support will pour in.
