A Madisonville school bus overturns with children on board.

MADISONVILLE, TX (KTRK) -- A school bus overturned Friday after a two-vehicle crash just north of Madisonville on Highway 75 under the I-45 overpass. Children were injured in the crash, but it's unclear how many of the 15 aboard were injured, though we know one child is was sent via helicopter for treatment.

Officials say the wreck happened just after 4:00pm Friday and involved Madisonville CISD Bus #4, which was on its afternoon route travelling east on Hwy 75. A southbound vehicle ran a stop sign, causing the crash. As a result, the bus ended up on its side, station KBTX reports.

MCISD Superintendent Keith Smith tells KBTX there were 15 children on the bus, along with the driver.

Smith tells KBTX some of the students refused treatment. Other students and the driver were taken to hospitals in Madisonville, Huntsville and Bryan. In addition, one student was taken by helicopter to Temple for treatment, but Smith says that student was cognizant and answering questions.

None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening, according to Smith, who says MCISD administrators were sent to each of the hospitals to be with the students and their families.

"Our biggest concern is for the safety and well-being of our students," Smith told KBTX

It's unclear the condition of the driver of the other vehicle in the crash or anyone else who may have been involved.

Just before 6:00pm, KBTX reports tow trucks were seen taking both vehicles away from the scene.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
