Woman sexually assaulted in her home in The Woodlands
THE WOODLANDS, TX (KTRK) -- Investigators are looking for a man who raped a woman after breaking into her first floor apartment.
The attack happened early yesterday morning at the Trailpoint at the Woodlands apartments in the 2300 block of South Millbend Drive.
"The first thing I knew, there was someone on top of me. I didn't hear anyone come in, nothing," said the victim who we are not identifying because of the nature of the crime. She wants her story told in the hope of catching the man who violated her and got away.
"I feel like this is a very sick individual, very sick," she said.
The woman told us the sliding door on her patio doesn't lock properly. That's how investigators believe the guy got in. She says she awoke to find him attempting to strangle her with a bed sheet. "He finally got a sheet over my head and pulled tighter and tighter. I couldn't breathe."
Somehow she broke free. She said that's when she tried to reason with the attacker. "I said do whatever you want to do to me, but don't kill me."
She says he raped her and then left her alive on the condition that she not contact the police.
She called 911 as soon as he left.
She tells Eyewitness News she was checked at the hospital and that a rape kit was performed to collect any evidence of the attacker.
Her physical injuries, she says, just minor bumps & bruises. Only later will she know the psychological impact of this attack.
The attack happened so fast, it was so dark and the victim said she didn't get a good look at her attacker, describing him only as 18-24 years old, Caucasian or Hispanic with what sounded like a Spanish accent, wearing black pants, a black t-shirt and white tennis shoes.
The apartment complex issued a letter to residents following the attack, reminding them to be wary of their surroundings and take steps necessary to protect themselves. Some residents were upset the letter did not specify the attack as a rape, sexual assault or even generically as a violent crime.
The property is owned by Resource Residential. Officials there says they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and that they have added extra security patrols at Trailpoint at the Woodlands. "Those additional patrols will continue throughout the investigation until the police have assured us of a resolution to the situation. The safety of our residents is our top priority and Resource Residential is prepared to implement any recommendations made by the authorities to keep our communities safe," said senior marketing manager Jenna Strobl.
