HOUSTON (KTRK) --There's nothing like high school football season, and abc13 is excited to showcase high schools in the Dick's Sporting Goods Friday Flyover!
Summer Creek High School is Humble ISD's newest campus, and they're already full of school spirit.
This morning, they're showing off their Bulldog pride and strutting their stuff as students, teachers and staff present three formations as SkyEye hovers above their stadium.
Now Summer Creek has an incredible story of generosity and spirit.
"We really care," said Senior and Student Council Vice President Marissa Cole. "We're not always what you see on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook."
The Bulldogs are less bite and more giving. School officials push students to focus on service projects, in hopes it will teach them real life lessons.
"You don't realize how much one action can do until you have everyone on board and doing it with you and change the lives of hundreds of people," said Student Council Vice President Caroline Narro.
And so far they have made a big impact. Last year they valued their service hours and donations collected at more than $120,000. The students held four blood drives, which resulted in more than 600 blood donations. They also helped raise money to buy prosthetic limbs for people in impoverish countries.
"It really makes you realize that I'm doing something good. I can really make a difference," said Cole.
Another effort, an empty bowl fundraiser in which students made and designed clay bowls and then sold the bowls to raise money to fight hunger. They raised more than $1200.
"They learned that they can matter. That they matter when it comes to serving the world," said teacher Julie Sahmel.
Cole says her most rewarding service, helping her fellow special needs friends on the other side of the school.
"Just shows that how selfless summer creek is and how we really do care about our students and now just ourselves," said Narro.
"Be a force for good in the world. That's what really matters," said Sahmel.
If your school has a great story and school spirit, nominate your campus to be featured as our next participant!
