Man surrenders after SWAT standoff at E. Houston motel

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A 48-year-old man who barricaded himself in the bathroom of an east Houston motel room has been arrested.

Officers were attempting to serve a warrant at the Motel 7 on the East Freeway at Oates Road around 9am, but the man refused to come out.

SWAT officers were called to the scene. Hostage negotiators tried to coax the man out. No hostages were involved.

After nearly three hours, Kenneth Johnson was arrested without further incident. Johnson was wanted for felony theft of jewelry.
