HOUSTON (KTRK) -- She's worn hearing aids since she was a baby, and now she's ready to hear the world like never before.

Breanna, a former student of the Melinda Webb School at The Center for Hearing and Speech, was facing an uphill battle when it came to listening to the world around her. Over time, her hearing has decreased to where her left hearing aid was not helping her understand speech.

Earlier this month, Breanna received a cochlear implant that will change her life forever.

The video says it all.

"Can you hear my voice?" Breanna's mom asked.

"Yes," she replied.

Moments later, the huge smile on her face turned into tears of happiness.

When we asked Breanna what her mom sounded like, she laughed and answered, "It sounds like a robot."

"I was nervous, scared, and then it was like total amazement," her mother said with a smile.
