Houston police officers say a would-be crook chose the wrong car to break into Saturday morning.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police officers say a would-be crook chose the wrong car to break into Saturday morning. Investigators say a business owner opened fire on the man shooting him in the head and grazing his arm.

The situation unfolded just before 4 a.m. outside the Cool Flow, Inc. store at the corner of Karbach and Ramus Streets.

Eyewitness News crews could see at least 4 bullet holes in a pickup truck parked outside.

HPD told abc13 that the suspect drove up in a Chevy Silverado and tried breaking into the SUV parked outside of Cool Flow. The business owner noticed the activity and ended up opening fire.

The store owner speaks exclusively to abc13 about the events that transpired on Saturday morning.

Paramedics took the man injured to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition.

At last check, officers said he is expected to survive from the bullet wounds.

Police officers are questioning the business owner. It's unclear why he was in the store so early or if the man injured was armed.
