Teacher accused of stealing kids' medications
A Katy ISD P.E. teacher has resigned following an investigation which revealed missing prescription medication at Stanley Elementary School

KATY, TX (KTRK) -- A Katy ISD physical education teacher has resigned following an investigation which revealed missing prescription medication at Stanley Elementary School in the Cinco Ranch area.

The school district says a nurse found a key broken off in the lock of a cabinet on August 24th. The nurse discovered medications missing from the cabinet and reported it to school administration which contacted Katy ISD Police.

A spokesperson for Katy ISD issued a statement reading:

"On August 24, a nurse at Stanley Elementary discovered a key broken off in the lock of a cabinet and noticed missing medication. The nurse reported this to school administration who contacted Katy ISD Police and Human Resources to investigate immediately. It was determined that an employee had taken the prescriptions. The employee was immediately removed from the campus and placed on administrative leave that same day."

The district will not say how police concluded the employee was the person responsible for the theft. That person's name has not yet been released by authorities.

According to district officials, the P.E. teacher resigned September 2 during the course of the police investigation. He faces possible charges including criminal trespassing, criminal mischief and theft.
