HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- A deadly shooting investigation is underway at an apartment complex in northwest Harris County.

"The caller had stated that she had seen males outside with a handgun," said Thomas Gilliland with the Harris County Sheriff's office.

The weapons disturbance call came in at 5:30am. Deputies say officers found the body of a 31-year-old man on the walkway between two apartment buildings at the complex on Grant Road at Lakewood Forest Drive.

"He's just a great guy. Like, I don't understand why somebody would do this to him," said the victim's friend who would only identify herself as "Tammy".

According to the victim's family-friend, the 31-year-old lived there with his fiance and his young daughter. The victim's three other children do not live with him.

"It's as though he was trying to make it to his door," said Tammy. "I just found out how many times he was shot. And to me, that's somebody that was really trying to do harm and make sure that he did not get up."

A suspect has not been arrested and is still at large.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are still on the scene.
