Investigators want to find who is responsible for killing a man in southwest Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A southwest Houston neighborhood is still on edge after a man was gunned down during a shootout.

Crime scene tape remains in place on White Cap Lane near Beechnut Street, where police say two groups of people exchanged gunfire.

Police say bullets were flying all over the place. One person is dead and so far no one is in custody.

This all happened around 1:45 this morning.

Police say there was a group of people on the street.

Just before 2am, another group of people pulled up in a car and the two groups opened fire on each other.

The victim who was killed is in his 20's.

Witnesses say the men who pulled upon the car were looking for the victim.

Police say there were shots being fired all over the place out here.

"At this point, it appears there were multiple shots fired into a couple of residences and vehicles were struck," says HPD Officer Moss. "Inside these residences were children and families sleeping."

Police are now talking to witnesses, and so far no one is in custody.
