The outages began just after 5pm Tuesday when a fire broke out at a Centerpoint Energy substation. Power was cut to 10,000 homes initially, but soon swelled to more than 75,000 homes without power.

Concerns over air quality prompted officials to issue a shelter in place for nearby neighborhoods, and nearby Hamilton Middle School was evacuated.

Thousands without power due to substation fire, Tracy Clemons reports.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Centerpoint Energy now says less than 200 customers are still without power. That number has gone down significantly as crews worked through the night to restore power.
