HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston Police are trying to figure out who killed a woman and left her body in the middle of the street.

It happened on Downs Lane at Hitchcock near Eastex Freeway at Tidwell in northeast Houston.

People who live here did hear a gunshot very early this morning around 2 or 3am. Then at sunup they found a woman in the street around 5:30am.

Isaac Ruiz said, "We heard gun shots and we just looked at each other because it sounded really close."

Ruiz says he and his wife did not check outside after hearing the gun shot around 3am, but hours later, they saw the body.

Ruiz said, "My father in law told my mother in law to bring the dog in and to call the cops because the lady wasn't moving."

Houston police say the woman has no identification, and because the shooting happened between 2 and 3am, there are no witnesses.

But a nearby business does have a security camera pointing toward Downs Lane and it may provide investigators with clues they need to catch the killer.

HPD's Chris Hassig said, "There are some vehicles that rolled through this intersection around that time and that is why we are trying to comb through that surveillance footage."

Authorities are hoping someone may have seen what happened here and they are urging anyone with information to call HPD.
