LOS ANGELES, CA -- A Sun Valley couple was beaten and hogtied after confronting four masked men outside of their home early Sunday.

At about 4am, the couple heard a noise outside and went to check it out, when two of four suspects forced them back inside while threatening them with a gun, authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Soon after, the violence escalated with the robbers punching the man in the back of his head and kicking the woman -- all while wearing a full disguise.

"Four male suspects broke into the house, dressed in black with black masks on and they tied up the family and removed property from the location," Sgt. Gabriel Holguin of the LAPD said. "Due to the fact that they had masks on, we don't really know...don't have any description of race or anything on them."

The couple's home, located in the 8700 block of Bradley Street, is bordered by two businesses.

Police believed the suspects may have been in the process of trying to jump a wall to burglarize one of locations.

Holguin said the couple only suffered some bumps and bruises, and three children in the home were not hurt.

"It's terrifying, the fact that there were children involved is absolutely horrible, I can't believe that anyone would ever do that," neighbor Nina Kasuya said.

The suspects got away with a purse, a wallet, a cellphone and some jewelry.
