HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police want to know who shot a woman and left her lying on a street in southwest Houston.

The woman was found around 3:15am lying on Braeburn Glen Boulevard near Bissonnet Street. She had a gunshot wound to the head, investigators say.

Police describe the victim as being in her late teens or early twenties.

The victim was taken to the hospital via ambulance and died an hour after arriving for treatment.

An eyewitness said she had seen the victim at the apartment complex before, but was not sure who she was. There wasn't any sound that she was aware of before the woman was shot, she reportedly told police.

The same eyewitness also described a possible suspect vehicle leaving the scene. There is no word yet on the location of that vehicle. Neighbors say they have seen a lot of crime in the area.

"A lot of stuff happens, not all the time, but it's bad over here. Every time you go outside you don't know what's going to happen," said neighbor Ricky Gomez.

Officers were working on getting a possible suspect vehicle description. No arrest have been made at this time.
