Woman's boyfriend suspected in death of 6-year-old girl

LEAGUE CITY, TX (KTRK) -- Authorities in League City have arrested a man accused of abusing a 6-year-old child and causing serious brain trauma. The child died Friday morning from the injuries.

League City investigators say an officer observed a woman driving recklessly and conducted a traffic stop at a gas station in the 1500 block of East Main. In a press release, Sgt. Dan Mercurio says he noticed the female driver exit the car with the unconscious child.

The child was transported to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and later to Texas Children's Hospital where she died.

Through an investigation, authorities determined 26-year-old Evan David Nolan was the recent caregiver of the child and responsible for the injuries. Nolan is also the boyfriend of the child's mother. He was arrested Thursday afternoon in the 3800 block of east FM-518. Investigators say they discovered the child had brain trauma and significant internal injuries consistent with abuse.

Detectives are still investigating people of interest and it is unknown if other charges will be filed. Nolan is currently in the Galveston County jail.

No other details have been released.
