A boy has died after he was hit by a car in southwest Houston, his father said. Jeff Ehling reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A young child hit by a black SUV this morning in southwest Houston has died, the child's father told abc13.

The driver of the SUV that hit him has not been charged and was not impaired, according to Houston police.

The four-year-old was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The accident happened in the 6600 block of Tarneff just after 7am.

Police say the driver of a black GMC Arcadia was traveling northbound on Tarneff when she struck the boy walking west on the crosswalk on De Moss. A preliminary investigation determined the victim failed to yield the right of way to traffic when he was struck.

Police say they're continuing to investigate.
