Wicked weather sweeps New Orleans, New Mexico
The National Weather Service now says a tornado did strike the New Orleans area on Thursday

NEW ORLEANS, LA -- A brief but intense storm pummeled New Orleans Thursday afternoon, toppling trees and power lines and collapsing at least two abandoned houses.

Two minor injuries were reported. A funnel cloud was sighted over the city. The National Weather Service later tweeted that a storm survey found damage from an 80 mph tornado over a half-mile track.

Meantime, the drenching monsoon season brought intense storms to the states of New Mexico and Arizona, bringing a deluge of rain and thundershowers.

Video of a water spout or a possible tornado were also captured in Iowa as the storm system moved through.
