Woman survives pole impaling her SUV

WOBURN, MA (KTRK) -- A Massachusetts woman survived after an eight-feet-long pole pierced her windshield.

Police say she was driving down a street when she blacked out. Her SUV veered off the road right into a chain link fence. The eight-feet-long fence police smashed through her windshield, missing her by just inches.

Witness Phil Hardcastle told station WCVB, "It was that far from her head. It went right through the middle (of the SUV). Look where the head rest is. It was sitting right there. It was scary."

The woman's grandchildren were in the backyard pool, saw the crash and screamed for help.

The woman was OK, but she couldn't remember what happened.
