DALLAS, TX --
While the pain of the deadly downtown Dallas shooting is still lingers, a gift from across the country hopes to help further heal the wounds.
The Dallas Police Department on Tuesday posted photos on their Facebook page of a special flag that was flown at one of the best-known buildings in the world: the World Trade Center in New York City.
".@PANYNJ Thank you for your letter of condolences and sending us the flag that was flown over the Word Trade Center the night of July 7, 2016," read the message.
The Port Authority of New York and New jersey Port Authority Police Department, which watches over the bridges and tunnels connecting New York and New Jersey sent a certificate along with the flag.
"The Flag of the United States of America accompanying this certificate was proudly flown over the World Trade Center site on July 14, 2016," reads the certificate.
At least a dozen Dallas officers were shot and five were killed on July 7, when Army vet Micah Xavier Johnson targeted police during a Black Lives Matter protest.
