Officials say at least five people have died in a bus crash in California

FRESNO, CA -- The California Highway Patrol says the tour bus was carrying about 30 people when it crashed into a highway pole around 3:30am on Tuesday.

The bus came to rest with the highway pole through the middle of it.

The California Highway Patrol says the tour bus was carrying about 50 people when it crashed into a highway pole around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

A central California sheriff-coroner says four, not five people, died in highway bus crash Five others were airlifted to local hospitals, and four people are still trapped inside the bus.

Officials say all rescues are now complete. Eyewitness News is awaiting new details.

The crash happened on northbound Highway 99 at Liberty Avenue, between Atwater and Livingston. The bus was traveling from southern California to Sacramento. The northbound lanes of the road are closed on Tuesday morning.
