MINNEAPOLIS, MN (KTRK) -- Demonstrators staged a sit-in on I-35 in Minnesota during rush hour, snarling rush hour traffic Wednesday morning.

The protesters formed a line across the busy freeway, blocking traffic.

They're protesting the death of Philando Castile, an African-American man who was fatally shot by a police officer during a traffic stop last week.

Protesters gathered shortly before 8am, linking arms and sitting down on the freeway. The Minnesota Department of Transportation shut down I-35 at University Avenue near Lauderdale as a result. The agency warned drivers to expect delays of about 90 minutes.

Police made dozens of arrests at the scene.

The interstate was reopened after about two hours.
