Houston METRO officers head to Dallas to support DART officers

Metro PD heads to Dallas to cover for officers attending funerals.

Sixteen Houston METRO police officers left for Dallas before 5 AM Wednesday to assist Dallas Area Rapid Transit police while they attend the funeral of a fallen brother.

DART officer Brent Thompson will have a memorial service in Dallas today, followed by a private burial in his home town of Corsicana. METRO's honor guard will attend the funeral.

Saturday, Thompson's body made the 55-mile trip to Corsicana, escorted by a police motorcade.

He is the first DART officer killed in the line of duty. Thompson was married two weeks ago. He leaves behind his new wife, six children and three grandchildren.

Services for two of the four Dallas police officers will also happen Wednesday.

Visitation for Lorne Ahrens will be held in Plano, followed by a funeral there tomorrow. Ahrens leaves behind a wife, who is a detective with Dallas police, and two children.

Senior Corporal Michael Smith will have a private memorial service today and a public mass Thursday in Dallas. Hundreds attended a visitation for Smith Tuesday, including Dallas Police Chief, David Brown. Smith was with DPD for 25 years and leaves behind a wife and two daughters.

Funeral services for Officer Michael Krol and Officer Patrick Zamarripa will happen Friday and Saturday.
