$5K reward offered for driver after deadly hit-and-run

HIGHLANDS, TX (KTRK) -- Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who witnesses say ran over a 48-year-old man with an SUV back in January and then fled the scene.

A $5,000 reward is offered in the case.

Police say George Nichols was walking in the southbound lane in the 1600 block of Thompson Road when he was hit by a blue or green small SUV.

Police say a witness saw Nichols get hit as he walked in the roadway. After the crash, the witness says the SUV fled the scene and was last seen going eastbound on I-10.

Nichols died from his injuries.
