Crash leads to discovery of gunshot victim's body in NE Houston
Investigators want to know who is responsible for a deadly shooting in northeast Houston

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We're learning new details after crash in northeast Houston led to the discovery of a fatal shooting victim.

Homicide investigators say the body of a man was found inside a vehicle that hit another vehicle on Jewel Street near Gregg Street.

The victim died at the hospital, according to detectives.

Investigators say around 2:16 am, officers were dispatched to the scene. When they arrived, they found the victim dead of at least one gunshot wound. The victim was inside a vehicle they rented in Louisiana, but detectives say they do not yet know where the victim is from.

Police say eyewitnesses saw someone leaving the scene on foot and walking around the neighborhood. The possible person of interest is described as a black male, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet tall. He was last seen wearing a yellow shirt.

An Eyewitness News crew meantime saw bullet holes on the victim's vehicle.

There is still no word on the location of the shooting. There does not appear to be any shell casings around the scene of the crash, but investigators say the car may have rolled into another car after he was shot.

The homicide division is still out combing the scene and speaking to witnesses.
