A victim of a deadly hit-and-run accident was missing for years, according to her family.

"We had many family members with missing posters, taking them all around," said Jonett Perkins.

Perkins is the sister-in-law of Jewel Pierce who was found dead on San Jacinto near Webster two weeks ago. Police say Pierce was lying in the middle of the road when a white or light colored BMW ran her over and dragged her nearly 100 feet. Investigators say the driver never stopped.

"As a person that has a heart, he should have stopped to see what happened," said Perkins.

Perkins said Pierce was a loving person who had a family and a home. Pierce's family told abc13 she was schizophrenic and was not on her regular medication for years. She disappeared years ago from her home in Liberty.

"She did not have a home here in Houston, but she had a home. She can stay with any family member that she needed to be. And we were devastated," said Perkins "She was a bubbly personality. She would break out in song all the time. She loved our babies. She would help take care of her nieces and nephews."

Investigators are trying to see if video surveillance cameras near the scene of the hit and run fatal crash can lead them to a suspect.
