Suspected drunk driver injures HPD officer in crash

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An HPD officer was injured in a crash involving a suspect drunk driver in southeast Houston.

The Gulf Freeway at El Dorado was closed to traffic after an earlier accident when that driver allegedly went around a barricade and struck the officer's patrol car.

Houston police say the officer injured his knee trying to jump out of the way of the vehicle.

The driver was arrested at the scene. Their identity and what charges they will face are not yet known.
