Woman shot, killed after returning home from work
A woman is dead and now investigators want to know why.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Investigators say several gunmen targeted a woman in north Houston and shot at her more than 20 times.

The woman left work and returned to a home on Crossdraw and March Creek just before 12:30am. Investigators say two vehicles drove up next to her in a cul-de-sac and opened fire. The victim's car was riddled with bullets. Investigators say a third vehicle, which was parked on the other end of the street, was also involved in the ambush.

The victim was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious condition. Investigators say the woman is expected to survive her injuries.

It's still not clear why the woman was targeted by the gunman.
