DENVER, CO (KTRK) -- A group of golden retrievers from Turkey is getting a new chance at life in the U.S.
The 18 dogs arrived at the Denver International Airport on Monday after a 42-hour journey. They will all eventually find homes thanks to the Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies.
One dog rescuer explained to local station KDVR that, in Turkey, the dogs are beloved as puppies, but when they grow up they sometimes fall out of favor with their owners and are turned out into the streets.
Sponsors pledged more than $1,000 to bring the dogs to the U.S.
