HOUSTON (KTRK) --Houston Police are searching for the person who killed a man and left him lying on Bissonnet Street in southwest Houston.
He was found not long after police got calls about gunshots being fired in the area.
Lindwood Rumber was one of those witnesses who spotted the victim.
"I was coming around the corner and when I come around the corner, I saw him laying on the ground," Rumber says.
(Linwood Rumber/Witness, "I was coming around the corner and when I come around the corner I saw him laying on the ground.")
Linwood Rumber was one of the first people to find the victim lying in the middle of Bissonnet Street.
Rumber says a car was parked in front of the victim, but that driver was trying to keep the victim from being hit by oncoming traffic.
(Rumber, "He was protecting him, so that, because he was laying out there, he had his car out there so nobody would run over him.")
Houston Police say they started getting calls just after 4 a.m. from nearby residents saying shots were being fired in the area.
(Kenneth Elliott/HPD, "They found HFD treating a man in the street that looks like he had a couple of gun shot wounds, they pronounced him dead at the scene.")
Unfortunately Houston Police do not have much information about why this happened.
(Elliott, "We are very early, very early stages of the investigation right now, don't have any specifics on motive, identity on the male, he is a white male looks to be 25 to 30's.")
We spoke with people who live near buy who said they heard three or four gun shots, but they did not see the shooting.
If you know anything about what happened out here yo are urged to call HPD.
