Texas parents ask judge to block standardized test scores

AUSTIN, TX -- A group of Texas parents want a judge to scrap results from a statewide standardized test that is under new scrutiny after a computer glitch this spring lost thousands of student answers.

The lawsuit filed Monday claims that students in grades 3-8 across Texas could unfairly be held back this year based on their scores on the test known as the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.

Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath has said the agency is tossing results from more than 14,000 student tests following March computer problems. But the lawsuit by a group called the Committee to Stop STAAR says problems with the exam go well beyond the glitch.

A spokeswoman for the Texas Education Agency says the state has not yet been served the lawsuit.
