Raleigh judge didn't like being called 'Bro'
RALEIGH, NC (KTRK) -- One of two 16-year-olds accused of a chain of armed robberies was brought up short by the judge at a court appearance Tuesday.
Raleigh police say Eric Matthew Angello and Zaire Dyjuante Wright committed seven convenience store and gas station robberies, one robbery of a person, and one attempted robbery between April 25 and May 15.
According to investigators, one teen had a gun, the other a large curved knife and they got away with money each time.
Both teens appeared before Judge Keith Gregory in a Raleigh courtroom Tuesday. Angello was there in person. Wright spoke over a video link.
"I don't know about half the stuff they talking about. I just ... I'm 16 bro. I have my whole life ahead of me," Wright told Judge Gregory.
"I don't want you to refer to me as brother or anything of that nature," the judge told him.
"I'm sorry your honor," said Wright.
Judge Gregory told the teen he was concerned about public safety and refused to lower his $1.2 million bond.
Wright is charged with a total of 12 counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, and kidnapping.
Angello faces 14 charges including robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. His bond was set at $1.5 million.
