Patricia Lopez has details on how to protest your property taxes before the deadline.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Property taxes keep rising for homeowners in Harris County.

Patricia Lopez has details on how to protest before the deadline.

First, nothing. Typically only about 1 in 10 homeowners protests, but officials expect more this year.

Secondly, you can protest online. There are two programs, ifile and isettle, that you can do from your own computer. If you are not satisfied with the board's decision, you can then schedule a case.

You can also protest in person. To do this, you have to file a protest--then a hearing will be scheduled.

And finally you can hire a company to do the work for and show you to a hearing on your behalf.

Tomorrow, we will show you how to hire a company or do it yourself.
