SUGAR LAND (KTRK) -- Construction crews are putting the final touches on The Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center, which is a sister museum to the Children's Museum of Houston.

"I'm just so excited that it's right here in my backyard," said parent Hillary Watson, who has two little ones and can't wait for the new museum to open at the historic site of Imperial Sugar.

"I'm excited about Kidtropolis. As a kid, that was my favorite part so I know my daughter, Eleanor, is going to probably love the grocery store the most," said Watson.

Tracy Golden of the Children's Museum of Houston gave us a look inside as the new museum in Sugar Land nears completion. We walked through the HEB grocery store in Kidtropolis.

"This is teaching children real life. Children go to the grocery store with their parents and they recognize the cashier. They get the opportunity to take on that role," said Golden.

The museum reflects Fort Bend County with local businesses throughout Kidtropolis, like Mercedes-Benz of Sugar Land and Another Time Soda Fountain and Cafe.

The Fort Bend Children's Discovery Center boasts 12,500 square feet of educational play-space. There is the Tot Spot for little ones, experiments for budding scientists, and the exploration of cultures, like Vietnam.

"This is a place they can go and have fun and flex their brain muscles, and then we get to enjoy it, too," said Watson.
