Super Bowl road work kicking off this week

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- 265 days and counting until Super Bowl 51 kicks off right here in Houston.

This morning the city announced that they would begin a major project to improve the roads around NRG Park.

For streets under construction, you'll need to look for backups in the area and use detours, if you can.

The road improvement project will cost more than $12.5 million and is part of a 30 million-dollar partnership between the city of Houston and Harris County.

Commissioner Gene Locke will announce even more details about this project and on more street repair plans.

The good news is this entire project will be completed by the time Super Bowl 51 begins in 265 days.
