HOUSTON (KTRK) --Investigators say a 19-year-old woman has died after she was struck by a car while leaving her job.
The hit and run accident happened before 6:25am on Chimney Rock Road near Gulfton Street in southwest Houston.
Police say the woman was trying to cross the street after leaving her job at Jack in the Box when she was hit by a white car.
The driver of that vehicle took off, police say, but they didn't make it very far. Officers found a badly damaged car a short distance away at an apartment complex.
The car is registered to a man who lives at the apartment complex. He told us he wasn't driving the car last night and let a neighbor borrow it.
"I let a neighbor borrow my vehicle, lost track of time and next thing I know they're knocking at my door and they're saying my vehicle was involved in some kind of investigation," said the owner of the car.
The car owner did not know the name of the man that he let borrow his car. He said he only knew him from the apartment complex. He also said the man has borrowed the car in the past. The car owner said he was really shaken up.
"Unfortunately, somebody got hurt really bad and it just has me really upset," said the car owner.
A couple parked in from of Sylvan Rodriguez Elementary School say they saw the whole thing, providing a good amount of information to investigators.

That testimony paired with potential surveillance camera footage from nearby businesses may help police piece together what happened in the moments before the victim was hit.
Jack in the Box declined to comment, but says the family has asked for privacy during this imaginably painful time for all of her loved ones.
