HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Police say a man wearing a hockey mask stole a FedEx truck in the Clear Lake area. It happened around 11am in front of the AT&T store near Baybrook Mall.

The female driver was actually inside the FedEx truck when the masked suspect jumped in. She was able to get out, and the suspect took off with the truck, leaving the driver behind.

A witness who saw the situation, and happens to be a concealed handgun license holder, followed the stolen truck to an apartment complex on FM 1959 near the Gulf Freeway. Police say he chased the carjacker.

"We were driving out to my dad's house, and he almost hit us on the way in, and there was another guy chasing him," said Jose Rodriguez, who lives in that apartment complex.

"(The guy chasing) just got it with his gun strap up, ready to pull it out, hiding behind cars," said Adrian Avila, another witness.

Houston police set up a perimeter and were able to capture the suspect behind a dumpster at a nearby gas station.

The man with the weapon did not fire any shots. Nobody was hurt.

FedEx released a statement saying it is grateful that its courier was unharmed and that the company is cooperating with investigators.
