HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are working to solve the mystery of a woman found dead, dumped in a garbage facility in west Houston.

On Thursday morning, workers sifting through trash at the Waste Management transfer facility on the West Sam Houston Parkway just north of I-10 discovered the body.

"The workers were sifting through the trash and sorting, that's when they were able to discover it," explained Houston Police Sgt. Chris Hassig. "They initially thought it was a mannequin, and found upon closer inspection it was female."

Police say there is no obvious cause of death, and the woman hasn't been identified.

The victim is described as a black female, 5'5" to 5'8", with a medium build. She has blonde/yellow braids and was wearing a tan skirt and a leopard print blouse.

Police are going through facility logs to try to figure out which truck may have dumped the woman at the building. They don't know what part of town the woman was brought from, but they say they do know she was dumped at a commercial location like a strip center or an office building.

The investigation is ongoing.
