Deputies defuse SWAT standoff in Harris County
Authorities have taken a man into custody after he barricaded himself in his home with a gun.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A SWAT scene on the west side has ended peacefully with a man in custody.

Harris County Sheriff's Deputies say they were called to the 16000 block of Cairnway Drive around 2pm. The man's mother said her son had pointed a gun at her for the second time in two days.

The HCSO High Risk Operations Unit and Hostage Negotiation Team responded to the scene. They say the 45-year-old man ran upstairs and barricaded himself in a room. He shot at deputies. As deputies continued to negotiate, he allegedly shot at them a second time before they fired gas into the home and he gave himself up.

No one was seriously injured. The suspect was taken to the hospital for precautionary evaluations.

Deputies say he will face aggravated assault charges on a peace officer and family member.
