Plea in shooting of deputy constable
Precinct 7 asks for public help in shooting of deputy constable.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Officials are asking for the public's help in identifying the person responsible for shooting Precinct 7 Deputy Constable Alden Clopton.

At a press conference Friday, Constable May Walker urged anyone with information to come forward.

"We don't have any information," Walker said.

Authorities said Clopton was wearing a protective vest when he was shot on April 13 several times from behind as the assailant stood on the other side of a four-lane road in a neighborhood just northeast of Texas Southern University.

None of the officers at the scene were able to identify the suspect.

A person of interest was taken into custody in the case, but police determined that person was not a suspect.

Deputy Clopton is the second local law enforcement officer in recent months to be shot in an 'ambush' style attack. Back in August, Harris County Sheriff's Office Deputy Darren Goforth was fatally shot in an ambush at a northwest Harris County gas station.
