Wounded man was found lying in the turnaround lane of the Gulf Freeway at Almeda Genoa

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man is dead after he was shot in the neck overnight in southeast Houston.

He was found by a driver lying in the U-turn lane of I-45 northbound to I-45 southbound at Almeda Genoa around 1am.

Houston Police say the driver called police and when they got out here they found the man had been shot in the neck, but he was still alive. The man was taken to a nearby Ben Taub Hospital but died en route. Police think this could be tied to an earlier shooting just south of where the man was found.

Houston Police Department's Jimmy Dodson said, "There was a report of shots fired a at a location south of here, and we are following up leads in that area now to try to develop some suspects."

There are no known witnesses right now, but Houston police say they are checking on a call about shots being fired earlier nearby. No vehicle was found at the scene.

If you know anything, you are used to call Houston Police.
