Student arrested for assault of special needs student in Santa Clarita, LASD says
A student at West Ranch High School in Santa Clarita was arrested after deputies said he assaulted a student with special needs.

SANTA CLARITA, CA -- A student was arrested for assaulting a student with special needs at a high school in Santa Clarita, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The sheriff's department said the assault happened at West Ranch High School on Thursday and that the student responsible for the attack was arrested on Friday for battery.

The student arrested was not identified by officials.

Video of the incident was posted to social media and sparked outrage among students at the school.

In a written statement, the William S. Hart High School District said, "Student and staff safety is our number one priority. We are very pleased with the fact that students chose to come together against bullying and stand united for what is right."

West Ranch High School Principal Mark Crawford spoke to students via the school's broadcast and thanked students for immediately alerting officials to the video.
