More than 40 residents were evacuated from an assisted living facility on Tuesday afternoon as floodwaters continued to rise.

HOUSTON -- Dozens of residents were evacuated from an assisted living facility on Tuesday afternoon as floodwaters continued to rise.

First responders used flatbed trucks to transport 45 inhabitants of the Atria Senior Living facility at Cypresswood and Steubner-Airline to the parking lot of a nearby church, where they received medical care.

Atria staff will relocate the displaced residents to a neighboring facility.

"The safety and well-being of our residents and employees is our highest priority," Atria said in a statement.

"We will continue business as usual from Atria Sugar Land while we organize sleeping arrangements for all residents. We thank the service teams that are working throughout Houston to respond to this situation, as well as our employees, who are making sure our residents have everything they need."
