Washburn Tunnel closure and Art Car Parade

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Heading to Austin this weekend? Watch for a total closure of US-290 Westbound from Gessner to Little York. The freeway will be closed overnight from Friday at 10PM until Saturday at 9AM. Your best alternate is to take the feeder road and re-enter before Jones Road. Drivers on the Sam Houston tollway will stay on the feeder and turn right or left on the Beltway 8 feeder to the tollway entrance.

The Washburn tunnel will be closed for cleaning overnight on from 10PM Saturday until 10AM Sunday. Use the 610 East Loop as an alternate.

You can also expect significant delays on US-59 Northbound between Kelley and Laura Koppe. Three lanes will be blocked all weekend, from 9AM Friday until 5AM on Monday. At least two lanes will be open during the closure, and officers will be on site to assist with traffic control.

The 610 East Loop southbound connector ramp to 225 westbound will be closed from Friday at 9PM to Sunday at 5AM. Detour signs will be posted in the area.

Don't forget the fun stuff! The Art Car Parade is this Saturday at 2pm. Major street closures in the downtown area will start at 11AM. Expect to see closures around Smith, Walker, and Bagby Streets. Bring cash for surface lots and garages in downtown.
