Truck theft leaves couple facing cancer fight with new battle
A man whose wife is battling cancer says a thief took off not only with their vehicle but also $10,000 worth of equipment critical to his livelihood.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Cancer has a way of putting lives on hold.

"I have cervical cancer and bladder cancer and a failing liver," Gina Harrison said.

Gina Harrison and her husband Carlton have practically lived in various hospitals since December.

"I couldn't come home with IVs, so I had to come to a place like this where they could tend to IVs," Gina said.

She is currently receiving treatment at Cornerstone Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. She and Carlton developed a pretty good routine.

"I'm a welder," Carlton said.

Carlton would work during the day, park his equipment truck in the hospital parking lot and spend the nights with Gina in her hospital room. He would make dinner for her first, though.

"I have a little barbecue pit on the back (of my truck)," Carlton said. "I told her I was gonna grill her some fajitas. Didn't make it. Somebody got to eat them."

He says his truck was stolen around 4:15pm Sunday. His livelihood is gone, too.

"I've got probably $10,000 worth of equipment on that truck," Carlton said, "My welding machine, my cutting rig, my cables, all my tools."

A spokesman from Cornerstone Hospital said it hires a 24-hour security company, and that the company made a police report documenting the incident. The hospital does have security cameras, but the spokesman would not disclose whether the cameras captured the crime.

In the meantime, Carlton and Gina are adjusting to their new normal.

"This was a dirty rotten thing for somebody to do," Gina said. "Have faith in God, I guess. He's the only one that can help us."

If you have any information on a stolen white Dodge truck with welding equipment in the back, contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

If you would like to help the Harrisons financially, a GoFundMe account has been set up for them.
