HCSO: Drunk man shot while attempting to break into apartment
Deputies say the shooter was on a call to 911 when he shot the suspect

HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- Deputies say a heavily intoxicated man was shot while attempting to get into an apartment in northwest Harris County overnight.

It all went down at an apartment complex on Charterwood Drive at Louetta Road.

The neighbor who shot the man spoke with abc13's Courtney Fischer.

Investigators with the Harris County Sheriff's Office say the man arrived at the front door of what he thought was his ex-girlfriend's apartment.

The man allegedly began banging on the door and attempted to kick the door in. As it turns out, deputies say the man was at the wrong apartment.

The person who lived inside the apartment opened the door and asked the man to quiet down and to leave his doorway. That is when deputies say the man attempted to attack the resident.

The resident shot the man in the stomach.

The gunshot victim was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital via helicopter. He is expected to survive his injuries.

HCSO says the person who shot him will not be charged, since it was all in self defense.

The District Attorney's office will consider charges on the gunshot victim, however, beginning with a misdemeanor for causing a ruckus.
