HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It was the middle of the lunch hour when gunshots were heard by eyewitnesses on Kirby Drive.

"I was at the car wash and heard two shots," said witness Bridgid Thorburn "Looked up and saw a guy shooting towards the street."

Houston police say there was a confrontation between two men just outside the door when one fired five shots at the other.

The victim was grazed in the head and struck in the leg, but able to run inside the restaurant for help. One eyewitness saw the getaway vehicle and the suspect and described them to police.

"I grabbed him and he was standing their holding his leg and I'm holding him. Hold on, hold on. My vest for work and all I could think of," said the man who asked we just use the name 'Sam.'

Customers at the restaurant and other nearby businesses wondered what caused the chaos.

Witness Mike Moore said, "No, not really surprised. We're in a big city and sadly, stuff like this happens."

Officers say the suspect jumped in as a passenger in a Chevy Suburban and took off from the scene. They are reviewing surveillance video from the restaurant to give them more clues.

But it was a lunch hour commotion no one expected.

"I'm always observant. You just have to be," said Moore.

Police say the victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. The suspect has not been caught. A possible older model gold Chevy Suburban could be the SUV the shooter rode off in.
