Police say an argument escalated into a shooting outside Memorial City Mall Friday evening, and the gunmen are still on the run.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A group of five to seven men are on the run after a Friday evening shooting outside Memorial City Mall.

Houston Police say the men tried to take a gold chain from two other men at the mall. There was an argument, which later moved outside the mall into the parking lot. That's when police say at least one member of the group started shooting.

Police say there seven or eight shots fired in all. Two gunshots hit the other men's parked car. Two other gunshots hit other customers' vehicles.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The suspects drove off in several vehicles. We spoke exclusively to a woman who saw what was going on and followed one maroon SUV. She says HPD dispatchers urged her to stay safe.

"They were running and tried to get into a car at a high rate of speed," she told us. "I just followed them and I called 911. I was on the phone with police until they turned into a neighborhood and I saw police cars and I left it there. It seemed like something that needed to be done so that these people could get caught."

Police were able to get a license plate number from her.

They have no other descriptions.

A search for the suspects is ongoing.
