HOUSTON (KTRK) --The search is on for a man who led police on a slow speed car chase then jumped into Buffalo Bayou and disappeared.
Right now the man is still missing.
We watched as police tried to rescue the man, but instead of climbing to safety the man threw off the rescue line and swam away from police and fire fighters.
By the time police found the suspect in Buffalo Bayou he was visibly tired from being in the frigid, rain swollen waterway.
Police say the man grabbed a rescue line but he did not seem interested in being saved from the water.
Police tried to drag the man to safety, but just as it appeared the suspect would leave the water he removed the safety line and swam downstream. Firefighters were just moments away from reaching the man in a rescue boat when he disappearing into the water.
Police then used the helicopter to try to find this man, but so far he has not been located and it is not sure if he left the bayou or died in the water. The search for him continues at this hour.
